Q. How many transsexual people are there in the world?

A. It depends on your definition of Transgendered.
Only falling under the general term of transsexual. The DSM1 IV estimates 1 in 30 thousand males are transgendered and 1 in 100 thousand females have identified themselves as having very strong trans feelings. {Definition of Transgender being born one physical sex, but their actual sex is different. Does not account for crossdressers2, gender benders3, people who are blends4, intersexed5, duo-genders6 or others also called gender queer7.}
Lynn Conway, a well known activist for transsexuals, estimates that 1 in 1,000 males has had GRS8 or SRS9. {in the US} If this is correct then there would be about 500,000 transgendered males in the US who have had SRS/GRS.


Using Transgendered as Generic No one knows the actual number: it's not printed on people's foreheads.
Using the broad term transgendered as anyone not conforming to generic society's binary set of genders and gender roles, many people are 'closeted' and so can't be counted, many don't even realize that they actually are transgendered and not crazy, but this would include genderbenders, dual-genders, crossdressers/transvestites, intersexed, blends and gender queer persons:
If 1 in 1,000 is a transsexual who has had surgery, at least another 1 in 1,000 hasn't had the surgery but is in some way or another transgendered.
Using the above calculation, 1,000,000 (1 million) men in the U.S. are transgendered, making it 1 in 500. If this applies worldwide (broad assumption) then 14,000,000 (14 million) men worldwide are transgendered - not including women. Using the DSM IV's estimate of 3 : 1 (transsexuals) then 14,000,000 men and 4,666,000 women for a total guesstimate of at least 18,666,000 transgendered persons worldwide. What is the differences between sex and gender?
Sex is either male or female, and gender is either masculine or feminine. In other words, sex is refered to biological differences, hormones, and internal and external sex organs. Whereas gender describes the characteristics that a society or culture expresses  as masculine or feminine. Q.What is gender identity disorder?

A.There are two components of Gender Identity Disorder, both of which must be present to make the diagnosis. There must be evidence of a strong and persistent gross-gender identification, which is the desire to be, or the insistence that one is of the other sex (Criteria A). This cross-gender identification must not merely be a desire for any perceived cultural advantages of being the other sex. Q.What is gender dysphoria?

A.Gender dysphoria is a medical condition characterized by a disconnection between someone's assigned and perceived genders. Individuals with gender dysphoria usually identify themselves as transgendered or transsexual, depending on their ideological feelings about sex and gender. Some transgendered individuals also disagree with the categorization of gender dysphoria as a medical condition, as part of a larger exploration of gender identity and what “normal” gender is. This site defines transsexualism, and it gives information about the diagnosis, relation to gender roles, origins, relation to transgenderism, terminology, prevalence, causes, sex reassignment therapy, leagal and social aspects, coming out, regrets and detransitions, in the media, customs and transitions, and more.
It defines transsexualism like this: transsexualism is an individual’s identification with a gender inconsistent or not culturally associated with their biological sex. A medical diagnosis can be made if a person experiences discomfort as a result of a desire to be a member of the opposite se, or if a person experiences impaired functioning or distress as a result of that gender identification.
It might not be the best site, because anyone can revise and edit the information on this site, so it doesn’t have reliability.

a research shows that children with gay and lesbian parents do not differ from children with hetrosexual parents emotionally or how they interact with people of their age and adults. This proves that the important thing is the quality of the parent-child relationship and not their parent's sexual orientation. Just because child has a transexual father or a mother, it doesn't mean that they are more likely to be gay or sexually abused than children with hetrosexual parents. They also have clear understanding of their gender identity and gender role behavior like other children.

It seems that some transgender people are attracted to men, some to women, some to other transgender people, and some to people no matter what  their gender is.

You might see transgender people on TV or movies with a certain manner and characteristics like the way they talk, the way they express things, but that is apparently only a myth.
